April's Green Wave: Oklahoma MMJ, Psychedelics, and Your Voice

Woof! April 22nd, 2026: A Look at the Green Scene

Hey there, Chronic Fam! Gizmo here, still your trusty furry fact-finder and chief leaf enthusiast, back on the keyboard with some fresh intel. Woof! It’s April 22nd, 2026, and let me tell you, my tail's been waggin' like crazy with all the buzz flying around the cannabis world. From nationwide celebrations to politicians finally getting with the program, and even some crucial developments here in our beloved Oklahoma, there's a lot to unpack. So, leash up, because we're diving deep into the latest.

This past weekend, our community—and frankly, the entire cannabis culture—showed up and showed out for 4/20. It wasn't just about sharing a puff; it was a powerful, nationwide display of unity, culture, and pure celebration. Here in Oklahoma, patients and advocates gathered, standing firm behind something we all know never should've been prohibited in the first place. And yes, your Chronic Docs family was right there, celebrating by helping more patients get their medical cards and find their path to wellness.

The Green Tide Rolls On: From NYC to OKC, and Beyond

The spirit of 4/20 wasn't confined to our neck of the woods, not by a long shot! We saw a massive shift in how the nation views cannabis, evidenced by scenes like Washington Square Park in New York City filling with hundreds of people celebrating openly. There was music, smoke in the air, and get this—a police presence that stayed pretty hands-off! That, my friends, is a monumental leap from the days of strict prohibition to public, open celebration. Whether you agree with every aspect or not, one thing is crystal clear: this culture is here to stay.

Politicians Catching the Scent

It's not just the people making noise; even some politicians are joining the conversation. We saw Iowa State Senator Zach Wahls take to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple, yet incredibly powerful message: “Legalize weed.” Short. Direct. And a clear sign of where this conversation is heading nationwide. From rallies to rigorous research, and now elected officials saying it out loud, this issue isn't going anywhere. And neither are we!

Beyond the Leaf: Psychedelics & Federal Scrutiny

While we're talking about green waves, let's chat about another exciting, and rapidly accelerating, area: psychedelic research. Remember when we said this was starting to move faster? Well, it just hit the gas! Markets are reacting, with psychedelic stocks surging after a federal order aimed at accelerating FDA drug research. This isn't just about cutting red tape; it's about pushing treatments like psilocybin and MDMA through the pipeline faster, especially for critical issues like PTSD and depression. Investors are betting big, and it makes you wonder: who benefits first, patients or profits? We're certainly watching that space closely.

Feds Sniffing Out State MMJ Laws (and Oklahoma's OMMA)

And speaking of federal movements, this is one that really has my ears perked up. According to our friends at Marijuana Moment, Congress is now directing federal agencies to study how state marijuana laws are actually working. They're going to be collecting data on enforcement, outcomes, and impact. Now, here's where it gets interesting for us here in Oklahoma. Our state has been living this nightmare with OMMA for years, while some politicians seem intent on destroying what SQ 788 created. So, when those federal numbers come back, they won't just inform future policy; they'll expose it. We already know what they’ll find here in Oklahoma, and we'll be following this investigation like a hound on a fresh trail.

The Looming Hemp Debate

Another issue quietly heating up is hemp. Senator Rand Paul has warned that new federal efforts could tighten regulations on hemp-derived products, raising concerns across the entire industry. He’s sounding the alarm that overreach could deeply impact our farmers, small businesses, and the consumers who rely on these legal markets. The rules may be shifting, but this conversation is far from over. We’ll be watching closely, because how this unfolds could significantly shape the future of hemp nationwide.

Oklahoma on the Ballot: Candidates & Cannabis

As election season heats up, we’ve been out and about, sniffing around the Capitol and reaching out to candidates to get their take on medical cannabis. Their stances could mean everything for our patient community.

Gubernatorial Warnings: Robert E. Brooks' Take

Just yesterday, we had the chance to speak with Robert E. Brooks, an independent candidate for governor. His platform centers around “We The People,” focusing on accountability, transparency, and putting power back into the hands of citizens. What really caught my attention were his warnings about the future of the cannabis industry here in Oklahoma. He raised concerns about increasing regulation, industry consolidation, and the pressure that could push smaller operators right out of the market.

He took his message a step further, warning that if a Democrat were elected governor, with a Republican-controlled House and Senate, any veto could be overridden. His argument is that party lines alone won’t fix this, and policy decisions could get made "elsewhere." Whether you agree or not, it's a perspective that adds a critical layer to this race.

OKC's Dr. Carlos Robinson on MMJ

We also reached out to Dr. Carlos Robinson, a candidate for State Representative in District 99 (that's Oklahoma City, so check your district!). We asked him directly about his position on medical cannabis. Dr. Robinson stated he respects that Oklahoma voters have already spoken on medical cannabis. His focus, he said, is on ensuring the program is implemented responsibly—protecting patient access, maintaining proper regulation, and addressing public health and safety concerns as they arise. Overall, a position that supports the program as it stands, with a clear emphasis on oversight and responsible implementation. This is exactly the kind of direct input we're committed to bringing you.

Norman's Jadan Terrazas: Silence on SQ 788?

In local races, we're keeping an eye on Jadan Terrazas, running for State Senate District 10. This district covers much of Cleveland County, including Norman—an area with a large and active patient population. We asked him directly where he stands on State Question 788: whether he supports keeping it intact or repealing it. At this time, he would not provide a comment. As this race moves forward, that’s a position voters will likely want more clarity on.

Your Voice, Your Future: The Chronic Docs Patient Survey

Alright, Chronic Fam, let's talk about surveys for a moment, because this is incredibly important. You might recall our discussions about how previous surveys, like the one funded by OMMA, skewed numbers and made our entire program look pretty bad. While there's a new collaborative cannabis survey out there for businesses and patients, we here at Chronic Docs want to go a step further.

Why Your Voice Matters More Than Ever

Patients are the absolute foundation of this program, and your voices need to be heard clearly, directly, and without filters. The OMMA paid for a survey with your money, then built policy around a survey done by an out-of-state group, and still quotes that three-year-old survey to claim saturation in our state. We think that's just barking up the wrong tree.

Chronic Docs Steps Up with a New Survey

That's why we're launching our own patient survey! It’s focused specifically on what you, our patients, are experiencing right now. This will be a voluntary survey, offered to patients as they contact us to receive their medical cards through Chronic Docs, and we might just send it out far and wide!

Our survey launches this Friday and will run for approximately three weeks, ending on May 8th. So, if you're coming in or calling in to get your Chronic Docs medical card, you'll have the incredible opportunity to be part of something meaningful. This will help us better understand how patients are feeling, and more importantly, it will make sure those voices are heard loud and clear where it matters most. While the state is looking at data like supply and enforcement, we’re collecting something different: patient experience in real time. And that, Chronic Fam, matters more than anything because it impacts the next round of legislation.

Stay sharp, stay informed, and let your voice be heard. Gizmo out!
